I just started a new Linux Mint 18 installation and installed the Steam client. After pulling an update on first, run, the client refused to start. Executing from the command line, I got this error:
SteamUpdateUI: An X Error occurred X Error of failed request:BadValue (integer parameter out of range for operation)
I googled the issue but couldn't really locate anything for this new Minty release. This box was formerly my Window10 box -- I recalled that although aging, the box has a fairly decent video card installed instead of my normal practice of using the mobo graphics chipset.
I loaded the Driver Manager from the System Settings and saw that I was, by default, using the open-source version of the nvidia drivers.
I selected the proprietary driver and restarted.
Success! Steam started immediately and I was able to access my account:
Hope this helps someone else with similar issues...
